On Monday, Chase Parham of 247Sports reported Old Dominion cornerbacks coach Dwike Wilson is now set to join Lane Kiffin’s staff at Ole Miss. He will be replacing one of the roles left vacant by Kelvin Bolden, the coordinator of recruiting, who left for LSU and Alex Brown, the assistant general manager, who took a job with the Atlanta Falcons.
Wilson is a Vicksburg, Miss., native and an alumnus of Ole Miss. He was previously at Southern Miss before taking the job with the Monarchs. Prior to his time in Hattiesburg, he was a safeties coach at South Alabama and a director of player development at Indiana under Tom Allen. Last season, ODU finished 46th in the country with 12 interceptions.
Doug Konkel of 247Sports says Wilson is a “fierce recruiter” who is no stranger to the state of Mississippi. He has experience coaching in the loaded Mississippi junior college ranks and was also the recruiting coordinator and quarterbacks coach at North Carolina A&T for three seasons. Prior to his time there, he was the recruiting coordinator and defensive backs coach at Murray State.
Dwike Wilson has made his mark at every stop, but he was a key cog to Indiana’s run to a Top 15 finish in 2020.
Wilson worked with then defensive coordinator Kane Wommack at Indiana for two seasons. During his time with the Hoosiers, Indiana was a combined 14-7 overall record – finishing with an 11-5 mark in Big Ten Conference conference play. Wilson and Indiana went 6-2 and finished 12th in the final Associated Press poll in 2020 after an appearance in the Outback Bowl.
Prior to his arrival in Bloomington, he spent three years at Jones County (Miss.) junior college where he was defensive coordinator and secondary coach during the 2016 and 2017 seasons. He was then promoted to assistant head coach and coached linebackers while maintaining coordinator duties.
“We just try to find the best people,” Kiffin said during SEC Media Days. “Unlike position coaches as far as an exact role — like your [defensive backs] coach and stuff — personnel and recruiting roles aren’t exact. Those are a lot more as you meet people and just finding people that fit. Not necessarily the exact skills.”
Ole Miss opens the season with Georgia State August 30 at 6:45pm CT. Kiffin and the Rebels are coming off a 10-3 season and a dominant Gator Bowl win over Duke.
