Lane Kiffin has found himself in an unexpected position with 4-star safety prospect Jamarrion Gordon. The Ole Miss Rebels weren't among the top teams mentioned to be in the mix for the Alabama native, but after decommitting from UCF and Alabama, Gordon is hoping his next decision is his final one.
Gus Malzahn's departure from UCF opened the door for Gordon to pursue Alabama, but things fell apart there as well. Florida has been considered the favorite to land Gordon, and Nebraska became a contender after they added one of Malzahn's top assistants.
However, the Rebels have seemingly beaten Nebraska and Alabama to emerge as a finalist for the versatile playmaker. Gordon, who is being recruited as a receiver and safety by schools, announced his final four options.
The 6-foot, 196-pounder had 19 receptions for 358 yards and six touchdowns, along with 39 tackles (29 solos), four pass breakups, three interceptions, two forced fumbles, one sack, and a fumble recovery on defense in 2024.
There haven't been additional details or even statements from sourcing that have given many clues as to why the Rebels, Seminoles, or Tar Heels were able to get into the race. Gordon's camp has been quiet outside of a few quotes about how much he likes Florida's situation with DJ Lagway at quarterback.
The Rebels could use another versatile defender, though. It'd make sense for Kiffin to sell a pathway to playing time and being close to home as an advantage, but we'll see how his fall official visit schedule lines up.
