Grayson (Ga.) linebacker Anthony Davis announced his commitment Saturday. And it was the Ole Miss Rebels and head coach Lane Kiffin receiving the good news. Davis chose the Rebel program over Alabama, Auburn, and Michigan.
The four-star prospect is the no. 298 overall prospect in the Rivals composite rankings. The 6-foot-2, 200 pound prospect was an Under Armour All-American last season after he finished his junior season with 105 tackles, 15 tackles for loss, five pass break-ups, three sacks, and an interception.
Ole Miss now has a 2026 recruiting class which is firmly inside the Top 20 with several blue chip commitments. Davis joins a group which features four-stars Izayia Williams, Damarius Yates, Landon Barnes, JC Anderson, Craig Tutt, Corey Barber, and Nascar McCoy.
Ole Miss defensive coordinator Pete Golding was a big reason why Anthony Davis chose the Rebels.
“Coach Golding’s been my guy,” Davis told Rivals earlier this summer. “He’s been recruiting me for a minute so just building that bond with him has been great. Taking football knowledge from him has been great. He’s one of the greats to do it. It was really great to sit down in meetings and him go over football and talk football, it was a fun experience.
“They’re multiple, they blitz a lot, they have different type of schemes. That D-line helps out and it’s a good thing for me because the D-line will always be very, very good. Playing with a good D-line and the D-line doing stunts just keeps you free to make plays.”
Davis gives the Rebels yet another instant impact candidate for its defense which is all of a sudden one of the most consistent and highly-ranked units in the country these last few years under Golding. Building a roster from the inside out is crucial. From the trenches to the second level at linebacker, especially in the SEC, you need depth and players like Davis to commit, sign, and develop inside your building.
Saturday’s commitment was step one. Golding and Kiffin will now embark on steps two and three as the Rebels continue its sprint to the College Football Playoff.
