Recruiting season is heating up as spring and summer official visits become a priority for the 2026 class. The Ole Miss Rebels are already sitting in a good position with one potential Alabama flip candidate, and now Lane Kiffin is hoping to poach an LSU flip target.
JaReylan McCoy, a 4-star defensive lineman from Mississippi, nearly committed to Ole Miss shortly after removing his pledge to LSU. However, the massive 6-foot-6, 245-pound pass-rusher will instead see through his summer visits as May and June arrive.
The good news for Kiffin and Ole Miss is that the scheduled visit is favorable for them to snag the elite talent. On3 reported he'll visit Ole Miss on June 6 after going to Auburn, Florida, and ahead of Texas and LSU.
LSU is definitely still in the mix, but McCoy felt he made his decision too quickly. Ole Miss has been trending to be his ultimate choice, but this is shaping up to be a fight between them and LSU.
“I just need to think about things a little more,” McCoy told Chad Simmons upon decommitting. “LSU is a great school and I love coach Peoples, so LSU is still in the mix, but I just wanted to open things back up.”
Interestingly, at that time, he did not mention Florida, Auburn, or Texas as finalists for his process. Instead, it was Ole Miss and LSU featured alongside other SEC teams. Alabama, Tennessee, and Mississippi State have seemingly fallen to the wayside for now.
Getting a visit last would've been ideal, but given that three of McCoy's five visits weren't major competitors before and that Ole Miss is still in the middle of that schedule, it seems to be a better sign than not that they're still a favorite.
Here's a scouting report on McCoy from On3.
“Physically gifted defensive lineman with a huge frame and plus athleticism as a high school underclassman. has measured in over 6-foot-6.5 and close to 250 pounds prior to his sophomore season. Owns plus length for the position with 34.25-inch arms. Registers as a top athlete, running a 4.89 second 40-yard dash at Student Sports’ All-22 camp. Lines up as a big defensive end for his high school. Physical gifts are readily apparent on Friday nights. Flashes good speed and functional movement skills. Closes to make some impressive plays. Has upside as a run defender, using his big frame to body offensive linemen. Still early in his development. Likely not done growing and could see his frame maxing out at north of 300 pounds. Size and athleticism make him one of the early top defensive linemen in the 2026 cycle.”
