Ole Miss & Chris Beard shoot their shot with NBA Champion and All-Star’s son after weekend visit
A former 13-year veteran in the league has a son who is one of the top prospects in the country. Ole Miss has now offered.
Tennessee Collegiate Academy (Tenn.) point guard Mason Williams recently visited Ole Miss when the football team played Arkansas. Now, Rebels’ head coach Chris Beard has extended an offer to the 2026 prospect.
Mason and his brother, Mike Williams, are the sons of former NBA Champion, All-Star, and high school All-American Mo Williams. The father attended Murrah (Miss.) and was a McDonald’s All-American before playing 13 seasons in the association – winning a NBA title with LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2016.
Now, it’s his youngest son’s turn to go through the recruiting process.
Prior to transferring to the Tennessee prep school, he led two programs to state titles.
Williams and his fellow Mavericks finished the 2024-2025 season with a 29-3 record and first ever state championship – defeating Madison Central, 69-52. And before moving to the public school ranks, Williams was a key cog when Jackson Academy went 36-1 and won its first overall MAIS title since 2006.
247Sports’ Adam Finklestein has seen Williams in person and came away impressed with his toughness and strength getting to the rim.
“The son of former NBA All-Star guard and current Jackson State head coach Mo Williams, Mason is a powerful guard who puts his physical strength to great use. Running with Sipp United, Mason always looked to attack the paint and was a heady decision maker when drawing a crowd. He’s more than capable of knocking down the three ball and displayed a calm demeanor in high pressure scenarios.”

He also averaged 16 points, four assists, and three rebounds for Team Sipp United AAU team this summer, coached by former Jackson State coach Wayne Brent.

Arizona State, Purdue, Notre Dame, and SMU are also recruiting Richardson.
Overtime Elite (Ga.) small forward Clyde Walters is a 6-foot-6 four-star prospect who is another Top 50 recruit. Alabama, Mississippi State, and Syracuse are also in pursuit.
