It's always fun when there's crossover between sports, and even more so when a player at the mountain top shares love for another member of the sports world. That happened in an unexpected way, when Philadelphia Phillies superstar Bryce Harper shared love for Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin while mic'd up during a game. Kiffin apparently got a kick out of it, retweeting a clip of it and invited Harper down to Mississippi in response.
“I love Lane Kiffin down at Ole Miss," Harper said. "I think Lane Kiffin’s one of my favorites. He’s definitely top-three favorite coaches in college football. I love him. Just the way he kinda approaches it, and all his guys love him and play hard for him – he’s just a lot of fun.”
Ole Miss got out of the gates with a fast start this year, beating Furman 76-0 in their first game. The Rebels are equipped with one of the better offenses in the SEC, led by quarterback Jaxson Dart, who is garnering plenty of attention for the 2025 NFL Draft.
Dart started his season completing 22/27 passes for 418 yards and five touchdowns. It was a hefty performance, and if it continues, he should be firmly in the conversation for the Heisman Trophy at season's end.
It remains to be seen if Harper will take Kiffin up on his offer, but it wouldn't be surprising. Ole Miss has five more home games on their schedule this season, the biggest of which being on Saturday, November 9, against the Georgia Bulldogs. The last possible MLB game of the season, World Series Game 7, is slated for November 2.
So, Harper could have time on his hands to go down to "The Sip" and provide a little added inspiration to the Rebels, if he so chooses. Considering Harper plays in the NL East, with his biggest rivals being the Atlanta Braves, it could be a fun way to once again put himself on the opposite end of Georgia fans. We'll see if it happens.
