Perhaps the most highly anticipated sports video game of the 21st century is already stirring up plenty of buzz less than a week from its release date.
EA Sports College Football 25 is set to be released worldwide on July 19. In an attempt to ramp up the buzz surrounding the first college football video game since 2014, EA Sports revealed its top 100 players in College Football 25 on Wednesday.
Ole Miss was well represented on the list with Walter Nolen, Jaxson Dart and Tre Harris all made the cut. However, defensive end and prized transfer portal addition Princelely Umanmielen was noticeably absent from the list. Umanmielen sarcastically reacted to his snub with the perfect meme posted to his X/Twitter profile.
Umanmielen, who spent his last four seasons with the Florida Gators, was ranked as the No. 12 player in the transfer portal by On3. But for some reason he was omitted from the the video game's top 100.
He was even ranked ahead of Oregon QB Dillon Gabriel who checks in as the No. 30 overall player and the No. 4 QB, just slightly ahead of Dart, in the game. Umanmielen has 21 sacks in his last two seasons and has emerged as one of the nation's most feared pass rushers.
One reason Umanmielen might have been overlooked could be due to the fact that he played for a mediocre Florida squad that never generated much attention. However that is set to change with Ole Miss in the conversation as a College Football Playoff contender.
It's important to note that EA Sports will be updating player and team rankings as the season moves along, so Umanmielen will have an opportunity to climb on this list. This isn't the worst thing as Umanmielen, already one of the best pass rushers in the SEC, just added an extra edge in motivation ahead of his final season at the college level.
