Ole Miss QB Jaxson Dart and WR Jordan Watkins break nearly every record in crushing SEC win over Arkansas
It's incredible that anyone on planet earth could possibly doubt Jaxson Dart after his complete and utter annihilation of Arkansas on Saturday as Ole Miss won 63-31."Oh, but it's just Lane Kiffin's offense.""Yeah, but Arkansas is bad."Nope. It's incredible that anyone on planet earth could possibly doubt Jaxson Dart after his complete and utter annihilation of Arkansas on Saturday as Ole Miss won 63-31.
"Oh, but it's just Lane Kiffin's offense."
"Yeah, but Arkansas is bad."
Nope. Stop with that nonsense. Jaxson Dart is just incredible. He's been playing at an elite level all season long on a per play basis. And now he owns pretty much the entire record book for the Ole Miss Rebels. He and wide receiver Jordan Watkins connected for five touchdowns between them on the day, setting multiple single game records. But more impressive than that, Dart now owns the all-time total offense record for Ole Miss.
Over the past few weeks Jaxson Dart had already climbed past Matt Corral and Eli Manning on the all-time list for total offense. All that was left was Bo Wallace, and Dart cruised beyond his totals in style.
Dart threw for a whopping 515 yards and six touchdowns, adding 47 more yards on the ground. Dart now has nearly 11,000 career passing, rushing, and receiving yards (just 15 of those) throughout his illustrious Ole Miss career.
Dart also set the single game total offense record (was 540 yards set by Archie Manning in 1969) as he tallied 562 yards overall. He tied the passing touchdowns record throwing six. And yes, he also set the single game passing yards record at 515 yards (was 513 set by Matt Corral in 2020).
Setting all of these records in one game also puts Jaxson Dart on pace to crack just about every single season record in school history now as well. But more impressive than just putting up huge numbers was how Dart did it. He was throwing "darts" all day as he helped Jordan Watkins break the single game receiving yards (254) and touchdowns (5) records.
Their connection began early, but really took off after this beauty of a touchdown throw from Dart down the right sideline. Perfectly dropped into a bucket for the score.
Just minutes later Ole Miss got the ball back. The commentator barely had time to say, "Dart has thrown touchdown passes on his last two passes", before he threw another one to Watkins again (as you can see in the Ole Miss Football post below).
After the game was firmly out of reach just over halfway through the third quarter Ole Miss did not take their foot off the gas. Lane Kiffin decided to keep airing it out as Jaxson Dart found Jordan Watkins for his sixth touchdown of the day on the easiest pitch and catch of the day. Watkins just ran a simple post route, won easily at the stem of the route, and coasted into the end zone.
Jaxson Dart certainly didn't look like a quarterback who was missing his best wide receiver in Tre Harris today due to injury. He looked like a Heisman Trophy candidate. Dart has been playing at that level all season long on a per play basis, but finally put some volume stats together so the ignorant Heisman voters might actually begin to consider him.
If Ole Miss plays half this good next week against a Georgia team who (as of this writing) is struggling with the Florida Gators, the Rebels are about to find themselves firmly back inside College Football Playoff conversations.
