Quarterback Trinidad Chambliss wants to be an Ole Miss Rebel for one more year and is doing everything in his power to make that happen. He has already filed for his waiver multiple times to be reinstated and cleared for a sixth year of NCAA eligibility.

Will that actually happen? Will the bureaucracy actually do the right thing? If not, it seems Chambliss’ legal team is ready to take necessary action. Still, time is running out quickly.

Trinidad Chambliss makes third NCAA filing for extra year of eligibility

The deadline to declare for the 2026 NFL Draft is coming up in under two weeks. The transfer portal window is already about half over. The NCAA’s incompetence and delay in handling Chambliss’ future eligibility are on the verge of costing him potentially millions of dollars. Given this, the young quarterback’s legal team is positioning itself to take aggressive action if this isn’t handled properly and swiftly.

As of Wednesday afternoon, Chambliss’ legal team has made its third filing with the NCAA, challenging the medical ruling that would likely render the young quarterback ineligible for 2026.

Tom Mars, Chambliss’ attorney handling the quarterback’s quest for a waiver request, shared some clear and powerful words in a letter to the NCAA.

According to Ross Dellenger of Yahoo Sports, Chambliss’ doctor said there was “sufficient proof” that the quarterback was medically limited from playing in 2022. Thus, Chambliss should be granted a waiver for extra eligibility in 2026. However, the NCAA case manager was concerned there was a lack of “contemporaneous medical documentation” — documentation of treatment and medical concern during the 2022 season.

Mars’ case for Chambliss will continue in the coming days as this challenge of the medical documentation, or lack thereof, and impact on the 2026 Ole Miss Rebels season is sorted out, hopefully quickly. If the NCAA drags this out further, Mars and Chambliss will have a strong case that this situation damaged the young quarterback’s earning potential, in which case this becomes far more than just an issue of medical waiver or player eligibility.

With deadlines for decisions approaching for Chambliss, Ole Miss fans won’t have to wait too much longer to learn the fate of their star quarterback, who has carried them where no one else has done before, into the College Football Playoff.

Unfortunately, it appears the NCAA will make a decision that Chambliss and Rebels fans may not want to hear again. Through multiple filings, the NCAA continues to deny the waiver. Even if Chambliss wins compensation in court, his shot at returning to Ole Miss may be long gone by then.
