Rivals’ Billy Embody reported Thursday Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin and his staff are set to host several big-time prospects this Saturday and in the coming weeks.
Kiffin opted not to sign a quarterback in the 2025 class after missing on Deuce Knight. Now, in the 2026 class the Rebels have one quarterback commit in Rees Wise. But, the room is going to look a lot different in a year or two. Naturally, things will shift because of graduation, the NFL, and the transfer portal.
So, Kiffin and his staff at Ole Miss must remain on the cutting edge of roster management. Let’s take a look at the names of a few possible future signal callers in Oxford.
Four-star Keegan Croucher is the top name on the board.
He recently named a Top 3 but Georgia offered a few weeks ago so things could be shifting. Croucher has been heavily courted by Kiffin and assistant coach Joe Judge. He has quite receptive to Judge and his NFL connections as well as being a big fan of Kiffin’s offense and recent success at quarterback.
“I love their offensive coaching staff,” Croucher said. “You start with the head coach who is an offensive guru. Then Coach Weis as their OC and what he has done is phenomenal. Also the addition of Coach (Joe) Judge as there quarterbacks coach last year. Having a coach who has been at all levels and knows football better than anyone else is awesome to have. They’ve been one of my favorites so far. Can’t wait to see them this year.”
He is set to visit for the LSU game in a few weeks and, for now at least, seems like the top target and most likely to commit, per sources.
Another 2027 QB name to know is Blake Roskopf.
The 6-foot-5, 235 pound signal caller from Desert Edge (Ariz.) has the frame already to stand tall in the pocket in the SEC while also delivering a punch in the run game. Last year, he completed 61 percent of his passes for 2,203 yards and 19 touchdowns with 12 interceptions in nine games. Roskopf was a key cog in the Scorpion’s run to its first 5A title since 2015.
Auburn, Oklahoma, and Tennessee are the early programs to know alongside Ole Miss. Kiffin got Roskopf on campus this summer and hope to get him back in town for a game this fall.

New faces in new places but the Ole Miss Rebels defense once again shines in road win versus Kentucky
Defensive coordinator Pete Golding had his work cut out for him this offseason. He lost damn near his entire defense to the NFL Draft and had to make some tough decisions at some key spots. But on Saturday, it was business as usual for the Rebels and it all started up front. Ole Miss held […]
Kentucky’s 2027 QB commit is also hearing from Ole Miss.
Many were surprised when Bearden (Tenn.) turned Buford (Ga.) quarterback DJ Hunter committed to Kentucky in April. Kiffin and his staff are keeping tabs on him, though. The 6-foot-1, 190 pound prospect is currently recovering from an injury while Dayton Raiola quarterbacks the Wolves. But, in 2026, it will be Hunter’s turn.
In 10 games at Bearden, Hunter threw for 1,431 yards and nine touchdowns while also rushing for three more scores last fall – despite missing three games with a shoulder injury and another game with a sprained ankle. Bearden finished 9-4 and reached the Class 6A state quarterfinals. After the season, though, Hunter had to make a decision after it was discovered that the Bearden High School Football Booster Club improperly paid two coaches at least $60,000 during two years, according to an investigation by the Tennessee Comptroller of the Treasury.
“We ended up deciding on Buford because last season Coach Jones ended up getting fired at Bearden. After that, a lot of players ended up transferring. The atmosphere was different with everyone that left,” Hunter told Knox News June 3. “We ended up needing to find another place to play. There’s good football down there at Buford, and my sister plays basketball, and they have a good basketball program down there.”
One thing on Ole Miss’ side with DJ Hunter is he is originally from the Sip.
He transferred to Bearden from Horn Lake (Miss.) before the 2024 season. In seven starts as a freshman with the Eagles, Hunter completed 78-of-165 passes for 1,135 passing yards and 10 touchdowns.
For now, he’s still committed to Kentucky. But once he takes over as the starter for Buford and plays a national schedule and puts some good things on tape, others might come calling. Clemson and Virginia Tech were both very interested prior to his injury and transfer.
