Ole Miss is off to an amazingly fast start, going 3-0 through the first three weeks of the college football season while outscoring their opponents 168-9. It's only appropriate then that the Rebels upgrade their gear to match the level of their play as the team looks to push towards a berth in the first ever 12-Team College Football Playoff.
So, on Wednesday, per the official Ole Miss Football "X" (Twitter) account, the team announced that they will be introducing some new alternate helmets to be worn October 26th at their home game against Oklahoma.
The design looks like a sort of camouflage that integrates both the deep navy blue with their power blue colors. The red accents around the face mask and down the center of the helmet give it a perfect balance. Hopefully this design is one that stays as a permanent option in the future.
Why introduce these new helmets in a game against a team that Ole Miss no significant history playing against? There hasn't been official comment from the athletic department or social media just yet, but it may speak to the degree of confidence that Ole Miss has in defeating Oklahoma this season.
It could be an attempt to make sure the new helmets are introduced in a game the team should win, but also one that comes against an SEC opponent that on the surface seems like a challenging one to defeat.
Ole Miss and Oklahoma have surprisingly only faced off one time in the history of college football. The two teams played in the Independence Bowl way back in 1999. Ole Miss won 27-25 over a Sooners team led by Tennessee Vols' current head coach Josh Heupel at quarterback. Hopefully the result of this game is quite similar as Ole Miss establishes a new kind of swag advantage via their new lids.
