Lane Kiffin and the Ole Miss Rebels got off to a bit of a rocky start with their 2026 recruiting, but that's recently changed. Kiffin and company have landed commitments from five high pedigree talents in the last 40 days alone and look primed to land yet another pivotal piece to their 2026 class as the Rebels find themselves suddenly in the mix for Tylan Wilson, a safety from southern Mississippi.
Tylan Wilson, Four Star Safety Recruit
Tylan Wilson is one of the best recruits in the entire state of Mississippi and Lane Kiffin was in on him extremely early compared to any other FBS program. Why? Wilson is a long, lanky, speedster at safety with ball skills like a wide receiver, so it's no wonder several top schools have been scrambling to get their offers in on him late.
Despite Ole Miss offering him extremely early there surprisingly hadn't been clear momentum trending towards a Rebels commitment. However, that didn't stop him from announcing that the Rebels were indeed in his final four this week as his official visits are set to start here soon.
Wilson is still interested in Texas A&M, Clemson, and Arkansas as well. He'll be visiting all three within the next month and Ole Miss is expected to see him on campus here soon now as well.
Things began to turn towards Ole Miss a bit when he visited with the staff this spring as he noted that he felt wanted and the relationships with coaches (like defensive coordinator Pete Golding) stood out in a great way. Ole Miss' aggressive attacking system that allows their safeties to move all over the field looking to make ball-hawking places certainly didn't hurt either.
Ole Miss has a pretty significant need at safety now and in the near future, so it's obvious why Lane Kiffin and his staff are trying to push hard here late to land Wilson. Both star safeties from last year's squad are now in the NFL (John Saunders Jr. with the Dolphins, Trey Washington with the Colts). Sage Ryan has stepped up already this spring as one of the leaders in the Ole Miss secondary, but he'll be gone after this season as well.
Ole Miss will likely bring in some more transfer help at safety next offseason as they've become so known for doing, but there's mostly just inexperienced youth slated to be around next spring as of now at safety. Wilson's rangy athleticism and ball skills should be put to good use early and often if he does commit to his in-state school, Ole Miss. Kiffin just needs to seal the deal now with one more strong visit in June.
Ole Miss Rebels and Lane Kiffin pushing early to land five star offensive recruit to keep him away from SEC rivals
The Ole Miss Rebels have been known to invest early into the recruits they find most important in the Lane Kiffin era. Whether that's underrated talents like Quinshon Judkins (somehow a three star for much of his journey) or high pedigree five stars like Suntarine Perkins, Kiffin is always pushing early to make sure important […]
