Ole Miss Rebels making major noise in pursuit of blue chip SEC talent – aiming for another rival flip
Can Lane Kiffin and Co., do it again? Ole Miss is starting to trend for a major five-star flip.
On Tuesday, a recruiting analyst from 247Sports entered a prediction flip for an Ole Miss SEC rival to change his commitment.
David Johnson of Rebels247 is now predicting Greene County (Miss.) five-star wide receiver Jase Mathews to eventually flip his commitment from Auburn to Ole Miss. The 6-foot-2, 182 pound prospect has been committed to the Tigers and Hugh Freeze since the first week of August.
Now, the Rebels are potentially trending for yet another SEC rival flip and another blue chip commitment for its 2026 class.
LSU, Ole Miss, and Texas A&M are the main schools still reaching out.
Rivals’ Hayes Fawcett spoke with Mathews about his recent ratings boost and who all is still trying to persuade him to decommit and/or flip.
“I hear from them probably every week or every other week, and they’ve been trying to get me to a game. And I don’t know if I’ll make it to any of the games,” Mathews said. “If I do, I don’t want to be anything bad or anything like that. I’m still War Eagle all the way.”
Despite not mentioning any school in specific, Ole Miss is probably the biggest threat after its recent hire of former Ole Miss wide receiver and seven-year NFL veteran Donte Moncrief. The newest staffer for Kiffin is Mathews’ cousin.

Ole Miss Rebels & Lane Kiffin flips difference maker in the trenches, stealing him away from SEC rival
After rumors started swirling Thursday there was a chance of a big-time SEC rival flip, Ole Miss and head coach Lane Kiffin got it done. Friday morning New Albany (Miss.) four-star offensive lineman Emanuel Tucker announced he had flipped his commitment from LSU to the Rebels. The local product had been committed to the LSU […]
Jase Mathews is a great athlete who shines in two sports in high school.
As a junior, he grabbed 68 receptions for 1,138 yards and 15 touchdowns. On the track, he has been clocked as fast as 23.70 in the 200-meter dash and has long jumped 20-6, per MileSplit.
247Sports’ national recruiting analyst Cooper Petagna thinks Mathews is a special talent.
“Dynamic slot receiver who wins with outstanding short area quickness and route creativity that also possesses a flare for the occasional acrobatic catch or two every Friday night. A shade under 6-foot-2, Mathews is probably best categorized as a quicker than fast playmaker with or without the ball in his hands. An easy mover with excellent flexibility throughout his body, the Mississippi native does an exceptional job of creating consistent separation at every level of the defense, exhibiting a unique blend of slipperyness and dynamic change of direction ability. Once at the catch point, the Top247 standout demonstrates outstanding body control, using his lower body explosiveness and cat-like reflexes to make seemingly impossible catches appear normal. Not just a clean route runner, Mathews displays a high level of open field creativity as a runner, showing the ability to make defenders miss and the long speed to hit occasional home runs. Projects as a high level Power Four impact starter that possesses the separation and playmaking ability to make an impact early on Saturdays.” – 247Sports’ national recruiting analyst, Cooper Petagna
