Kewan Lacy has been exactly what the doctor ordered for the Ole Miss Rebels running game. Lane Kiffin’s offense is well known for its high flying aerial attack, but it’s really clicking on all cylinders when the running backs can carry a significant workload.

The 2024 season was special for Ole Miss, but after losing Quinshon Judkins to Ohio State via the transfer portal Kiffin and company were left with a running back by committee situation. Henry Parrish was fine, but the four-headed committee didn’t have a single game-changing talent in the bunch. Kewan Lacy has been the feature back that Ole Miss needed this season. He’s stepped up in a huge way, tallying more carries than any other SEC running back in the conference, and now has the Ole Miss single season rushing touchdown record.

Kewan Lacy record breaking season for Ole Miss

  • Kewan Lacy already had 16 rushing touchdowns prior to the Florida game, but scored his 17th, breaking Quinshon Judkins’ Ole Miss single season rushing touchdown record early in the game Saturday
  • Lacy has been the feature running back that Ole Miss needed badly as he’s carried the rock over 200 times on the year already
  • Lacy is also on pace to challenge Judkins’ single season rushing record of over 1500 yards, but he’ll need to pick up the pace by about 10 yards per game, and Ole Miss will need a deep playoff run

Kewan Lacy breaks Ole Miss single season rushing touchdown record

Kewan Lacy hard already racked up 16 rushing touchdowns prior to Saturday’s game on top of his 1,046 yards from scrimmage in just ten games. That was impressive enough. Then he went and immediately broke the single season rushing touchdowns record by scoring the opening touchdown for the Ole Miss Rebels on Saturday against Florida. And he did it in style too, diving through contact, extending to the goal line, and keeping himself off the ground with his opposite hand just enough to finish for the score.

Kewan Lacy has more than just the single season rushing touchdowns record within reach now. He just cracked into the top ten for most rushing yards in a single Ole Miss season, and he’s already on pace to finish top three there (if not higher). He could break into the top ten all-time rushing touchdowns list in just one season with a couple extra touchdowns too.

Lacy is putting together one of the best seasons in program history for a running back and yet he’s still not getting much national love. He ranks firmly inside the top ten among all power conference running backs in rushing yards, touchdowns (the most), and yards from scrimmage. What’s incredible is that Lacy is doing all of this as just a true sophomore. If he keeps this up for the rest of this year and next (and perhaps more) he’s assuredly going to go down as one of the best players to ever wear an Ole Miss jersey.
