Ole Miss underrated offensive star carries Rebels to victory over South Carolina as Lane Kiffin makes program history
Kewan Lacy proving he’s among elite running backs as Lane Kiffin is one win away from Ole Miss record
The Ole Miss Rebels keep finding ways to dominate opponents, taking advantage of key defensive weak spots every single week. Lane Kiffin continues proving why he’s one of the hottest names in head coaching searches. With each and every win it’s becoming more and more likely he stays with Ole Miss thanks to incredible performances from underrated offensive stars like running back Kewan Lacy.
Lacy racked up over 170 yards from scrimmage and a touchdown, further cementing himself as one of the best running backs in the country. Lane Kiffin now moves to within just one victory of tying the Ole Miss program record for most wins in a five-year span as he got his 47th win since the start of 2021 with the Rebels on Saturday.
Kewan Lacy stats in breakout Ole Miss Rebels season
- Kewan Lacy entered Week 10 action with the most carries among all power conference running backs and should still have that crown now
- Lacy ran for 167 yards on 24 carries and caught three receptions for seven yards against South Carolina on Saturday
- Lacy now has 984 yards from scrimmage and 13 total touchdowns through just nine games for the Ole Miss Rebels this season
Kewan Lacy carries Ole Miss Rebels to victory over South Carolina Gamecocks
The last time the Ole Miss Rebels won 47+ games in a five-year span the year was 1962. The team had 48 wins from 1958 to 1962. Now, thanks very much to running back Kewan Lacy, Lane Kiffin and the Rebels already have 47 wins in the last four and a half seasons – with three regular season games, a possible SEC Championship Game, and the College Football Playoff still to go.
Lacy’s unbelievable performance against the Gamecocks moves him up to 984 yards from scrimmage on the season as he’s averaging nearly 110 total yards per game. Lacy now leads all SEC running backs in rushing touchdowns, carries, and ranks extremely high in missed tackles forced, rushing yards, and virtually every other meaningful running back statistic this season.
Kewan Lacy didn’t like his role as Missouri last season and transferred in to compete for the RB1 job at Ole Miss. After yet another wildly impressive performance it’s clear he’s earned it in Oxford. Lacy is now on pace to post the most yards from scrimmage of any Rebels running back since Quinshon Judkins’ freshman season in 2022. He’s almost certainly going to outperform Judkins’ record in touchdowns on the year too.
Having a feature running back that Ole Miss can trust is such a massive upgrade over the Rebels’ squad last season, when the team found themselves leaning far too much on quarterback Jaxson Dart to do everything by himself through the air and on the ground. Lacy’s legs combined with Trinidad Chambliss’ phenomenal mobility and arm talent make Ole Miss one of the scariest teams still in the mix to make the College Football Playoff and the offense is still heating up.
