Former LSU EDGE turned Ole Miss Rebel Da’Shawn Womack spoke with the media Tuesday. He revealed just how he feels about defensive coordinator Pete Golding and what he’s done for him since his arrival in Oxford.
“We move around a lot,” Womack said on Tuesday. “(Golding) is the best in the game right now and he can move you all over the field so you can rush the passer.”
Womack played in all 12 games and had 13 total tackles as a freshman. But, he appeared in just eight games in 2024. He was a five-star recruit in the 2023 class and ranked as No. 42 prospect nationally, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average which utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
Now, he’s at Ole Miss and appears to be in line to be a huge part of Lane Kiffin’s defensive line.
Ole Miss defensive line coach Randall Joyner was a big reason for Da’Shawn Womack picking up Ole Miss.
“Ole Miss was my first offer in high school. Ole Miss was one of the schools that was always reaching out,” Womack said. “Coach Joyner, he was reaching out making sure I good. Even when I committed to LSU he was making sure, ‘Hey, you sure you want to go?’ Stuff like that. Just the relationship with coach Joyner is high.”
Womack joins a loaded group up front. William Echoles, Jam Brown, Kam Franklin, and Zxavian Harris all played in 2024 and are all back. New transfer addition Princewill Umanmielen joins Womack to form quite the two-deep for Golding and Joyner.
“I think we’re going to be really excited with the guys that have already been here,” Golding said last week. “Then obviously, we lost some value coming off the edge from an elite pass rusher. So going in and getting those two guys, whether it being Princewill or (Womack) from LSU to be able to really affect the passer like we did last year. I think those guys can have elite ability to affect the passer on base downs and third down. I think they give you some flexibility to move them around. That was the big need.”
