Will Lane Kiffin be the head coach of the Ole Miss Rebels, the LSU Tigers, or the Florida Gators next season?

Or is Kiffin going to the NFL?

Those are the questions that everyone in college football is asking as we wait to see how this season’s coaching cycle plays out.

Florida is believed to be the program that has the best chance to swipe Kiffin from Ole Miss.

On3’s Gators Online, in fact, reported on Monday that “multiple members of Kiffin’s staff expect him to accept the Florida job if formally offered”.

As is usually the case in big college football coaching searches, all kinds of rumors about Kiffin have been flying around the last couple of weeks.

One rumor out there suggests that Kiffin has met with legendary former Florida coach Steve Spurrier about the job and could be making a decision very soon.

Spurrier, however, sounded on Monday as if he isn’t sure how or when Florida’s search will play out.

Spurrier joined Another Dooley Noted Podcast on Monday for his weekly appearance and said he thinks Florida is a “long way” from making a hire.

“I know Lane Kiffin, and I know Eli Drinkwitz,” said Spurrier. “Obviously, either one of those guys would be super if it works out. But it’s a long way from whoever we’re going to get as a coach, in my opinion, right now.”

“And that’s what I’ve talked about with (Florida athletic director) Scott Stricklin a little bit,” added show host Pat Dooley. “He said the same thing — [that] it’s just a long way away.”

There are always a bunch of rumors and message board insiders who litter the internet with unconfirmed “inside information.” In my 13 years of covering college football, I’ve found that most of that information is complete nonsense.
