On Tuesday, the coaches revealed their 2025 Preseason Coaches All-SEC Team. Suntarine Perkins made the second-team defense and Zxavian Harris, Princewill Umanmielen, and Lucas Carneiro were all named to the third-team.

Ole Miss is coming off a 10-3 season and a demolishing of the Duke Blue Devils in the Gator Bowl. Now, Lane Kiffin is once again tasked with rebuilding a roster which has mostly departed for the NFL. And, he will be replacing Jaxson Dart at quarterback with Austin Simmons.

The Rebels will be going for its third-straight double-digit win season under Kiffin and the elusive College Football Playoff the Rebs have missed on the past two years despite impressive regular seasons.

The leader of the Ole Miss defense is Suntarine Perkins.

Known for his explosiveness and versatility, Perkins will once again aim to be a force off the edge for Pete Golding’s defense. He quickly became a cornerstone of the Rebels’ defense last season after making 60 total tackles, 10.5 sacks, and an interception, while helping the team set school records for sacks (52) and tackles for loss (120), both leading the nation.

His performance earned him All-SEC third-team and All-America Honorable Mention honors. Entering his junior season, Perkins has been named to the preseason watch lists for the Chuck Bednarik Award and the Lombardi Award.

Zxavian Harris and Princewill Umanmielen are both ready to step up.

Harris, a 6-foot-7, 320 pound walking coke machine has been a key contributor on the Rebels’ defensive line since his freshman year. But, in 2024, Harris stepped up big-time in big spots – recording 31 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, and forcing a fumble. With several contributors from last season’s record-setting defense in the NFL now, Harris is expected to play a significant role in the 2025 season.

Umanmielen began his collegiate career at Nebraska, earning second-team Freshman All-American honors in 2023 with 22 tackles and 4.5 tackles-for-loss. In 2024, he recorded just 13 tackles and 2.5 tackles for loss before entering the transfer portal. Now, like his brother, Princely Umanmielen, he has landed at Ole Miss to play for Golding, Randall Joyner, and Lou Spanos.

Ole Miss dipped into the transfer portal for a kicker and it landed a damn good one.

During his two seasons at Western Kentucky, Carneiro was deadly accurate with his leg – making 31 field goals (87.1 percent) and making all 88 extra point attempts. In 2024, he was named Conference USA Special Teams Player of the Year and earned first-team All-American honors. Also, he was a semifinalist for the Lou Groza Award, recognizing the nation’s top kicker. Carneiro was also named to the 2025 Lou Groza Award preseason watch list this year as he looks to pick up where Caden Davis left off in Oxford.
