Ole Miss Rebels quarterback Trinidad Chambliss had his waiver denied by the NCAA the day after a 31-27 College Football Playoff loss to the Miami Hurricanes and it wasn’t the only thing that happened to him.

According to 3 Down Nation’s Justin Dunk, the Saskatchewan Roughriders also removed him from their negotiation list, which the CFL has for players who are Americans who haven’t played in the league yet.

If you’ve never heard of the negotiation list, it’s completely understandable. The CFL doesn’t get a lot of media attention in the United States. Dunk explained the negotiation list in his article.

“CFL teams can claim the rights to up to 45 players via the negotiation list on a first-come, first-served basis, provided that they are not eligible for the Canadian or Global Drafts, and have never played in the league before. These players can be added, traded, or removed from the list at any time.

“Being added to a negotiation list does not mean that the player has expressed interest in the CFL, and some are unaware that their rights have even been claimed. Players can only force their removal from the list if the team does not provide them with a minimum contract offer at their request.”

The negotiation list is how Johnny Manziel ended up in the CFL. Chambliss was one of four quarterbacks currently on a negotiation list with Zach Calzada (Ottawa Redblacks), Luis Perez (Montreal Alouettes), and Hank Bachmeier (Hamilton Tiger-Cats).

Removing Chambliss from the negotiation list sends a major signal that his NFL Draft stock is rising significantly. He could end up going on day two, with the potential of it being day one if he has a great process. His three dynamite performances in the College Football Playoff, including his game-winning drive against the Georgia Bulldogs in the Sugar Bowl, have opened the eyes of many.

The next three months are going to be really important for Chambliss, and it’s time to take notice.
