We should know where Lane Kiffin will be coaching in 2026 by Saturday at the latest.

Kiffin, who is in his sixth season as the head coach of the Ole Miss Rebels, is expected to make a decision on his future following Friday’s Egg Bowl matchup against the Mississippi State Bulldogs.

The assumption is that Kiffin will either stay at Ole Miss or leave Oxford for the LSU Tigers or the Florida Gators.

Urban Meyer thinks he knows what Lane Kiffin is looking for in 2026 and beyond

Wherever Kiffin lands in 2026, his salary is expected to be quite large.

Former Florida and Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer, however, doesn’t believe Kiffin’s focus is on his salary.

Instead, Meyer thinks Kiffin’s decision will come down to where he believes he has the best chance to win a national championship.

“I’m going to say this — I don’t think it has anything to do with money,” said Meyer on The Triple Option. “I think it has to do with winning….I think he’s just negotiating the most expensive roster for the next five, six, or seven years. If one school offers you 14 (million) and another offers 13 (million), okay, that just means more (money) to charity and more to your children. That’s fine. But I think I know Lane well enough that this is not about that. This is about winning the national title. What’s going to put him in the best position to win that? Only he can figure that out.”

History suggests that it’s easier to win a championship at LSU than it is at Ole Miss or Florida (even though Meyer won two at Florida).

But no one knows if Kiffin sees it the same way.

Kiffin can be a bit of a wild card, which has made this saga fascinating to observe. We should finally find out what Kiffin plans to do, though, by the end of the weekend.
