An Oregon Ducks defensive star has taken his play to another level in recent weeks and must continue to do so ahead of the Ducks’ match up against Penn State
A few players helped themselves this week and raised their stock while one payer is trending downward.
The Oregon Ducks checked another box this past weekend, handling rival Oregon State to secure their fourth straight victory. While the win kept Oregon unbeaten and on track for its biggest test yet against Penn State, it wasn’t without wrinkles. Some players elevated their play and continue to build momentum heading into a massive top-10 clash in Happy Valley. In contrast, others left room for improvement as the Ducks prepare for their most formidable opponent.
With the spotlight about to intensify, here’s a look at which Ducks are trending up and who needs to rebound as Oregon sets its sights on Penn State.
Stock Up
Jamari Johnson
The Louisville transfer has started to flash recently and has seen his snap count pick up. He played in 36 snaps against the Beavers and finished the game with two receptions for 21 yards. He is big, long, and has a good catch radius. With the level of competition set to increase in the coming weeks, I like the idea of the Ducks playing more 12-personnel with Johsnon and Kenyon Sadiq.
Bryce Boettcher
It’s hard to say Boettcher’s stock has gone up since he was clearly one of the Ducks’ top defensive players, but he has been playing on a whole new level the last few weeks. His instincts, short-area quickness, and physical play style have all been displayed. Boettcher is always around the football, and his energy is contagious. Simply put, when he is playing well, so is the Ducks’ defense.
Dakorien Moore
Like Boettcher, it’s hard to say that Moore has raised his stock, but he just continues to look increasingly like the number one receiver prospect in the country. He is a downfield playmaker who also excels with the ball in his hands after the catch. Moore is easily the team’s number one weapon outside, and this offense will go as far as Moore will take them.
Stock Down
Alex Harkey
The Texas State transfer has shown some weaknesses recently, allowing pressure in the passing game. He isn’t the best athlete, and speed rushers can win around him if he doesn’t land his punch early in the down. Additionally, his balance has been spotty when attempting to engage the pass rusher. This week, he must step up his play against Penn State’s talented edge rushing group.
