Dan Lanning is now having to search for an answer to a problem the Oregon Ducks didn't have in 2024

The Oregon Ducks are now finding themselves in a bit of a tough situation, and it's not even their fault, or the players' fault, for that matter. It's all just part of this dangerous game that everyone loves to watch and play.
Heading into 2025, there were already enough questions about this Ducks team. They were coming off a big season, one that saw them fall short, but a big season nonetheless. They lost one regular-season game and then lost in the postseason to Ohio State. Last year was maybe their best chance to win the National Championship since the year they lost to Ohio State in the Championship.
But these things happen; all you can do is look forward, and the Oregon Ducks have a lot to look forward to. Their recruiting class for 2025 was really good, one of the best in the country, and their recruiting class for 2026 is looking like it has the potential to finish as the best in the country.
But there are questions, like how their team will play without Dillon Gabriel and a bit of a wildcard at the QB spot. And, of course, they lost a lot of people to the NFL Draft, so that's always a factor. And now, they have lost one of their better receivers for maybe the entire season — only time will tell on that part.
According to On3 insider Pete Nakos, Evan Stewart is believed to have torn his Patellar Tendon this week and could be out for 3-12 months, depending on the severity of the tear. The Ducks are currently doing more testing to get more information.
Evan Stewart, a junior wide receiver for the Oregon Ducks, has been a dynamic addition to the team’s offense since transferring from Texas A&M in January 2024. In his first season with the Ducks in 2024, Stewart played in 13 of 14 games, finishing as the team’s second-leading receiver with 48 receptions for 613 yards and five touchdowns, earning All-Big Ten honorable mention.
His standout performance came against Ohio State during the regular season, where he recorded seven catches for a season-high 149 yards and a touchdown in a thrilling 32-31 victory, showing that he has WR1 potential.
Without Stewart, the Ducks are going to have a tough time finding a guy who can make up for that production, and all of the production they will be missing from the guys who went to the draft.
But if there is anything we know about Dan Lanning, he will find an answer.
