Dan Lanning trolls Penn State in hilarious fashion using their own methods following Oregon Ducks win
Oregon head coach Dan Lanning changes his mind on Mo Bamba as he trolls Penn State
The Oregon Ducks are 5-0, ranked 2nd in the nation according to this week’s fresh new AP Poll (for whatever that’s worth), and Dan Lanning has his squad looking like a national championship contender yet again. If that were all Lanning accomplished with the 30-24 overtime victory over James Franklin and Penn State on Saturday it would have been enough. However, as Ducks fans already know, their head coach seldom leaves a victory without a fun celebratory exclamation point.
Coach Lanning has made it a point to have some fun with various traditions of opponents after defeating them on the road in the last few years. He had some fun with both Michigan and Wisconsin (hilariously celebrating the win with their “Jump Around” song) last season. Now he’s back at it with Penn State and the song “Mo Bamba”.
Dan Lanning hilariously claims Mo Bamba is is new favorite song
For those who somehow might be unfamiliar with the song, “Mo Bamba”, you’re probably better off not knowing it, but it’s become a staple of Penn State’s White Out games for a long time. The combination of the loud, droning, trap beat and the unrelenting cheers of 100,000 ecstatic Penn State fans has become known as one of the most intimidating sports atmospheres on the planet. So much so that Michigan once had to actually call a time out before the very first offensive snap of the game because no one on the offense could communicate.
The Oregon Ducks didn’t seem too phased by the song or the crowd on Saturday as they took over the game late, so of course Dan Lanning couldn’t help himself. He posted on his story shortly following the game that Mo Bamba was his new “favorite song” accompanied by a picture of his safety Dillon Thieneman intercepting the pass from Drew Allar in overtime.
What makes this post even funnier from Lanning is that he was asked about the song just last week and whether the Ducks would be playing it during practice in preparation for the Penn State game (as you can see in the post below).
“It’ll play a couple times. We’ll do everything we can to be prepared for that environment,” Lanning said. He then volunteered that he doesn’t really like that song.
So much for that. After winning the Ducks’ most important regular season game of the year against Penn State that song might just bring back some fond memories for Dan Lanning and his team forever.
Lanning and the Ducks now get a bye week to prepare for the only other team on their schedule that has any hope of beating them in the Indiana Hoosiers. Break out star quarterback Dante Moore and his still rather unproven set of offensive playmakers and developing defense will still need to take care of business down the stretch, but the Ducks look like they’re in great position to go undefeated heading into the postseason yet again.
