The Oregon Ducks are known for boasting strong defensive lines, specifically along the interior. Over the last ten years, the Ducks have produced players like Derrick Harmon, Jamaree Caldwell, Deforest Buckner, and Arik Armstead, all of whom have been drafted high in the NFL Draft.

Talent shouldn’t be an issue upfront for the 2025 Oregon Ducks, as the team could have multiple players drafted along the defensive front. Players like Matayo Uiagalelei, Amauri Washington, and Bear Alexander have all drawn interest from NFL scouts, but a young player has many in Eugene excited.

After a quiet freshman season, Oregon defensive lineman Aydin Breland is ready to make noise in 2025.

The former five-star from Mater Dei saw just 17 snaps last year but enters this fall stronger (up to 304 pounds from 295) and more versatile, taking reps at multiple spots up front. The opportunity is wide open with three starters from last year’s defensive line off to the NFL.

“Your playing time is in your own hands,” Breland said. “You’ve got the opportunity — now it’s up to you.”

Breeland played sparingly as a freshman, but when he did play, his talent was easy to notice. He mentioned that seeing playing time helped him develop as a true freshman and how much he grew just from competing against talented teammates throughout practice.

“Last year made me better, being in kind of the same environment that I came from. Coming from Mater Dei, you had guys who were just as good as you at practice every day,” Breland said. “It’s kind of a similar environment. Everybody here was recruited. Everybody here was the best guy where they came from. So, it’s just about competition every day and knowing that winning a rep isn’t going to be easy.”

Oregon’s defensive front could have its next breakout force if Breland’s athleticism and preparation translate to Saturdays.
