Four Rutgers players Oregon Ducks fans should know ahead of their match up this Saturday
Ducks fans should know these four players ahead of their match up against Rutgers.
After a tough setback at home, the Ducks head east to face Rutgers — and this matchup offers plenty of intrigue beyond the scoreboard. The Scarlet Knights bring a physical, disciplined team that thrives on forcing mistakes and controlling the tempo. For Oregon fans, there are a few key names worth knowing before kickoff. Here are four Rutgers players Ducks fans should keep an eye on this weekend.
Players to watch
Athan Kaliakmanis QB
Kaliakmanis is in his second year as the Rutgers starting quarterback and leads this offense efficiently. He is third in the BIG-10 in passing yards and has 11 touchdowns to just three interceptions. He likes to push the ball vertically and fully trusts his offensive weapons on the outside. He isn’t the most mobile quarterback, so the Ducks would be wise not to let him sit comfortably in the pocket.
Ian Strong WR
The Scarlet Knights have a trio of productive receivers, but based on my film study, Strong is the most talented. He is big, physical, and highly athletic. He is a dominant “x” receiver on the outside and can win all over the field. He excels in contested catch situations and could prove to be a difficult matchup for Oregon’s corners.
Antwan Raymond RB
Raymond is a talented sophomore running back who is the focal point of Rutgers’ ground game. He is fourth in the conference in rushing yards and second in touchdowns. He flashes very good vision, speed, and contact balance.
Jett Elad S
The Scarlett Knights’ leading tackler, Elad, has been a steady presence in the back end of their defense. He is a highly instinctive player who has a knack for making plays. Elad will be tasked with defending Oregon’s multiple-look offense and will likely be a player Rutgers looks to move around and match up with talented players such as Kenyon Sadiq.
