Dan Lanning and the Oregon Ducks have been crushing it on the recruiting trail, but that didn't stop Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin from taking a cheap shot at the Ducks head coach for one of his only recruiting weaknesses.
While the Ducks have done a great job shoring up the quarterback position in the transfer portal in recent years, they've failed to land elite quarterback talent in recruiting, especially out of the west coast — something you would expect them to be able to do with their recent success.
Kiffin is clearly aware of this, and took a shot at Lanning online for it.
All Kiffin did was tag Lanning, but the context behind it is pretty strong. The player in that video is Ryan Rakowski, a 2027 quarterback out of California that Kiffin has already had an offer on for two years, while Lanning and the Ducks don't.
In the 2025 recruiting class, Lanning had Hawaiian elite quarterback Jaron Keawe-Sagapolutele locked up. He signed his letter of intent, got to Oregon early when they were preparing for the Rose Bowl, and Keawe-Sagapolutele promptly decided to leave and transfer to UCLA.
Over the last few years, Lanning has had to bring in Bo Nix and Dillon Gabriel via the transfer portal, along with the presumed starter this year, Dante Moore. If Moore does take over the starting spot, it will be four straight seasons without a starting quarterback coming from their own recruiting.
Kiffin is poking the bear with some next-level online pettiness. While he's not from the west coast, Jared Curtis, the No. 1 quarterback in the 2026 recruiting class, is set to announce his decision between Oregon and Georgia on May 5. Landing Curtis would be a massive "how do you like me now" moment for Lanning.
