The Oregon Ducks got a big road victory, going into The Big House and beating new Big Ten rival Michigan by a whopping 38-17 score. They remain the unquestioned No. 1 team in the AP Poll before the first College Football Rankings are announced this week.
On the heels of that victory, Oregon has their eyes set on a win off the field. Jahkeem Stewart, who reclassified to the 2025 class and remains the top uncommitted recruit in the country, is high on their list with a month to go until National Signing Day. The feelings, apparently, are mutual.
"All four schools have a chance, but two schools are starting to create some separation on my list,” Stewart told On3. “I have to go on these last visits and see where my heart is. This is my last opportunity, so I want to spend time with the coaches, see how they coach in big games and see how the teams play. So many things matter to me.”
While he didn't specify that Oregon is one of those two teams, his later comments indicate that they very well could be.
“I like coach Dan Lanning a lot,” Stewart said. “The coaches at Oregon know what they are doing. They are No. 1 in the country right now and that speaks for itself. They have a great coaching staff. Coach Dan is a great head coach, the coach Tosh Lupoi is one of the best defensive coordinators in the college football right now. He showed me how he would utilize me and utilize my skill when I was on the official visit.
“Coach Tosh isn’t going to let me be like a robot, but he is going to let me be loose and get out there after quarterback. That’s what I want to do. He said I’m a special player and he wants to use my special talents. Coach Tosh and coach Dan aren’t going to sugarcoat things and I like that about them too.”
It can't be overstated what a difference-maker Stewart profiles to be. As a sophomore in high school, he was already 6'6" 270 lbs, and recorded 90 tackles, over 30 tackles for loss, and 20 sacks.
Stewart was in attendance for Oregon's victory over Ohio State. Having said that how coaches prepare and get the team ready in the biggest moments is important to him, it stands to reason that Oregon checked a lot of boxes in that meeting. Stewart would provide Oregon with a ferocious defensive lineman with legitimate NFL first round upside. With a month to go, this is the biggest recruiting storyline in the country right now, and Oregon is right at the center of it.
