College football recruiting is in full swing, with under a month to go until National Signing Day. Right now, nothing is official, but verbal commitments are all over the place. Oregon, who is hunting down a top-5 recruiting class, just landed a big commitment flip at a position of need, made even sweeter by taking the flip away from the hated rival Washington Huskies.

Ducks fans, meet Vander Ploog, a 4-star tight end with tons of upside, and your latest 2025 recruiting commitment.

With the way the Oregon offense likes utilizing pass-catching tight ends, bringing in another big, athletic option is never a bad thing. Patrick Herbert and Terrance Ferguson are likely gone from the program after this year, which would move Kenyon Sadiq into a prominent role in the offense next year.

Ploog, a California native standing 6'7" 230 lbs, is a natural pass-catching weapon with a background in basketball. This year marks only his third year playing football, meaning Ploog is still somewhat raw, but by all accounts, his athleticism and pass-catching ability, both literally and metaphorically above the rim, is intriguing.

A basketball background for a tight end is always of interest. It's a common theme that has led to the success of plenty of tight ends that went on to play on Sundays. If Ploog is able to successfully transition that athleticism to the gridiron, he could be a massive hit.

Oregon has plenty of names on their list to try and close over the next few weeks, but checking Ploog off the list is a big win for a Ducks program that is getting closer to a Big Ten Championship Game, and College Football Playoffs, berth with each passing week. Head coach Dan Lanning and the Ducks are recruiting incredibly well, and will look to finish strong.
