The biggest potential piece in Dan Lanning's 2026 recruiting haul is drawing closer to announcing his decision, and the Ducks are one of two finalists in the running for the No. 1 quarterback in the country, Jared Curtis. As Lanning continues to try to build the recruiting pipeline in Oregon, being able to land the top quarterback in the country would be a massive win that would continue to solidify the Ducks as a national powerhouse.
Choosing between Oregon and the Georgia Bulldogs, Curtis is set to announce his commitment on May 5th.
In mid-February, there was plenty of momentum surrounding Curtis and the Oregon Ducks, with Oregon being named as a frontrunner for the 6'4" 225 lbs quarterback.
"I like Oregon a lot," Steve Wiltfong reported that Curtis told him in February. According to Wiltfong, he believes that Oregon is Curtis' favorite team in the race right now. Wiltfong is making a prediction for Curtis to land in Eugene.
Curtis would instantly become a crown jewel in Oregon's recruiting pipeline, and would be in line to potentially take over under center in fairly short order after arriving in Oregon. If Dante Moore takes over as quarterback in 2025, he'll be doing so as a former 5-star recruit that's entering his third year in college. It's safe to assume that Moore will be the starter for the next two seasons, but could then potentially find himself primed to head to the NFL.
In doing so, Curtis could be in line to compete for the role as a sophomore in 2027.
Lanning continues to bolster his recruiting classes with some of the top talent available in the country, and Curtis would be a tremendous win as the Ducks look to build a championship program.
