The Oregon Ducks made light work of Purdue on Friday night, dominating from start to finish for a 35-0 road victory. It was a pleasantly boring win that never saw Purdue get anywhere close to putting up points. It's exactly the type of performance that you want to see out of a championship-level team against a struggling unranked opponent.
The defense set the tone, and they never let up. It's the first time the Oregon defense has pitched a shut out on the road in quite some time.
Purdue's quarterback Ryan Browne attempted 19 passes, completing 9 of them for 93 yards and an interception. The ground game was a bright spot for Purdue, with the team totaling 208 rushing yards in large part because their passing game was locked down throughout the entire game. Those 208 rushing yards came on 40 rush attempts.
We'll wait to see the stats tomorrow, but Oregon's defense lived in the backfield, primarily Matayo Uiagalelei and Jamaree Caldwell. They got to the mobile quarterback for three sacks, and generated 10 tackles for loss. The secondary consistently left nowhere for Browne to go with the ball. It was a truly dominant outing.
The defense continues to show up and prove that they are one of the best units in the country. They continue to get top-tier performances out of their secondary, particularly do-everything defensive weapon Brandon Johnson and CB1 Jabbar Muhammad, who has the talent and tenacity to give any receiver a fight.
Oregon has a championship makeup. Their next two tests, against No. 22 Illinois and No. 24 Michigan, are tests that Oregon will have to answer with resounding confidence.
