I think Oregon Ducks' quarterback Dillon Gabriel might be a mentally and emotionally done talking about the Rose Bowl. Fortunately for him, the game is almost here.
Speaking with Breanne Greene of KOIN News Portland, Gabriel was asked a question about what it would take to beat Ohio State, which turned into Gabriel going hilariously off the rails about how and where football should be played.
"We love the Rose Bowl. We love warm weather. I think we should play more football on nice grass instead of on artificial stuff, and the more sun, the better. Why do we do it to ourselves? Like, do fans want to sit in the snow and the rain? Let's just make arenas, let's make domes, let's do grass, let's do more fireworks at games. Yeah. Let's do that."
It was an all-time soundbite. I don't know if Gabriel was happy, exhausted, energetic, or delirious, or somewhere in the middle, but clearly the Hawaiian kid is excited for a warm-weather Rose Bowl in Pasadena.
"If you keep winning, you get domes for the next two games," Greene continued.
"Oh I love that," Gabriel answered.
"Did you know that?" she asked.
"I do. Or, now I do. But let's just, let's continue that evolution. I think that's important," Gabriel responded.
Greene added that it sounds like Gabriel thinks all football games should be played in Hawaii.
"Wouldn't that be unreal? I don't think anyone would be mad at it, you know, but maybe just the travel or the travelers. That's tough. But let's find more sun."
Gabriel won't be lacking sun on New Year's Day, with the forecast for Pasadena calling for comfortable temperatures in the 60s with partly cloudy skies.
