When your starters handle business, it's a great opportunity for younger players to get some valuable experience. As the Oregon Ducks were on their way to handily beating Purdue 35-0 on the road, some freshmen got some late work.
Oregon's offense got out of the gates with three straight drives resulting in a touchdown, including one drive of 99 yards. Jordan James wasn't called on for a dominant outing because, quite frankly, he wasn't needed after his early two touchdowns on the ground. Noah Whittington got a bit more run, Evan Stewart and Tez Johnson did their things through the air, and Oregon cruised with Dillon Gabriel running the show.
Late in the game, true freshman wide receiver Jeremiah McClellan saw the field, recording his first career reception.
It's a simple catch and run for the true freshman, but it's important nonetheless. McClellan is a former 4-star recruit that the Oregon Ducks were able to flip from Ohio State last winter. With Tez Johnson, Evan Stewart, and Traeshon Holden all potentially leaving the program at the end of the season, McClellan will have an opportunity to earn a role while competing with incoming 5-star recruits Dakorien Moore and Dallas Wilson.
The more McClellan can see the field when the pressure to perform isn't at its highest, the better. The rangy 6'0" 190 lbs wide receiver certainly has an opportunity to contribute in a big way in 2025.
Oregon Ducks defense accomplishes something they haven’t done in over 30 years
