Former Oregon linebacker Jeffrey Bassa had himself a week at the Senior Bowl, and his peers agree.

As voted on by the offensive line, tight end, and running back position groups for the National squad, Bassa was named the top linebacker of his team at the Practice Player-of-the-Week awards ceremony down in Mobile. If you're an NFL team looking for heart, leadership, and instincts, this is your guy.

Bassa has been the backbone of the Oregon defense over the last two seasons in particular. Bassa was recruited as a safety and played the position in all 14 games as a freshman in 2021. In 2022, they moved him down into the box, where his 6'1" 226 lbs frame is a more natural fit, and he promptly responded by logging 62 tackles and four tackles for loss.

Bassa is built and brings the thunder. At the Senior Bowl, he ran right through running back Ollie Gordon with a wicked spin move. Gordon stands 6'1" 233 lbs.

Bassa's history at safety gives him increased understanding of pass coverage and how to read defenses. Combine that with his dense frame and explosive power, and he has plenty of traits that the NFL will covet.

His leadership stands out. He's a vocal leader that rallies his team and gets players aligned and assigned. As someone that wore the green dot at Oregon, he has plenty of experience calling taking play calls and calling out commands to get his defense where they need to be. Bassa made his mark during the Senior Bowl.
