It's rivalry week, and more than ever, there is a ton at stake in the college football landscape. With teams looking to punch their tickets to their conference championships, and hopefully to the College Football Playoffs, this weekend will be full of high drama.
To those outside the Pacific Northwest, they might not know that Oregon and Washington have a long, heated rivalry. This weekend, Washington has nothing to play for but pride, and you better believe they'll give Oregon their best shot in their meeting in Autzen Stadium.
The Oregon Duck mascot seems ready to go for the matchup, spending all day Tuesday throwing jabs at the Husky on X.
Other barbs included "Harry the Husky's favorite color is beige," "Harry the Husky sets 12 alarms yet still sleeps through all of them," "Harry the Husky thinks Moo Deng is a brand of chocolate milk," and "Harry the Husky doesn't RSVP but shows up anyway."
The Husky's X account, clearly intimidated by the superior show of force from the superior opponent, has not yet responded at this time.
Last season, Oregon and Washington met in the regular season, with quarterbacks Bo Nix and Michael Penix putting on an electric spectacle and back-and-forth blows. That matchup sent tons of talent to the NFL, not only in the two quarterbacks, but in all three of Washington's top wide receivers (Rome Odunze, Ja'Lynn Polk, and Jalen McMillan), Oregon's leading receiver, Troy Franklin, Oregon's lead running back, Bucky Irving, and each team's top offensive linemen, among others.
The matchups were intense, with Oregon dropping the regular season showdown, but they had a shot at redemption in the final Pac 12 Championship Game. They were once again unable to pull through, losing 34-31 to the eventual National Championship runner-up Washington Huskies.
This year, Oregon is the team to beat, sitting as the only undefeated team in the country and the No. 1 team in the College Football Playoff rankings. They've already secured their spot in the Big Ten Championship game, while the Huskies sit at 6-5. Oregon still has plenty to play for, wanting to secure their spot as a top-5 seed in the College Football Playoffs no matter the outcome of the Big Ten Championship Game, which a win against Washington would almost assuredly do.
We'll see which mascot gets the final word on Saturday night.
