The most prestigious term that a college football program can earn is being a blue blood. These are the most historical programs over the last 100-plus years, generally dominating the polls and competing for national championships. According to one industry analyst, the Oregon Ducks' blue blood status is rising.

Oregon Ducks Named CFB Blue Blood Contender

Oregon Ducks head coach Dan Lanning has brought out the best of the program since taking over for Mario Cristobal in 2022. With a 22-5 record and 2-0 bowl mark, the Ducks are playing as well as they ever have. This is a serious program that's able to compete with just about anyone on any given Saturday.

Now a member of the Big Ten, the Ducks are hoping to join Ohio State, Michigan, and the other traditional blue bloods that have dominated the history of college football. While Oregon has been an excellent team since the late 1990s, their zero national titles stands out.

On3's Andy Staples feels the Ducks are outside of the nation's top nine blue blood programs right now. He named them a contender in an Instagram post. Florida State, LSU, Clemson, Nebraska, Miami, Florida, Auburn, and Tennessee are right alongside Oregon as contenders.

The nine teams Staples named as blue bloods is actually surprising. No one can argue Alabama, Georgia, Ohio State, Michigan, Texas, and Notre Dame. But he included USC and Penn State, which is odd. Neither of those programs have won national titles recently and seem stuck as good but not elite ones.

Oregon can't make a claim over either since they also haven't won the title. But the Seminoles and Tigers are relevant with recent wins. Even Miami feels close to being a blue blood if they can ever get out of their own way.

For now, Oregon is an off-season blue blood program thanks to their domination of recruiting. That should bode well into their postseason play sooner than later. I'd go as far as to say they're on the cusp of breaking into the elusive group within the next few years.
