Ohio State vs Tennessee was an absolute trouncing of epic proportions (sorry, Vols fans), with the Buckeyes winning in a landslide 42-17. In doing so, the Buckeyes punched their ticket to Pasadena, setting up a rematch with the Oregon Ducks in the Rose Bowl.
Minutes after the Ohio State victory, sportsbooks opened up their lines for the Rose Bowl, with the eight-seed Buckeyes opening as a 1.5 point favorite against the undefeated and No. 1 seed Oregon Ducks.
Oregon head coach Dan Lanning must be grinning wildly for the added motivation. You know full well he's going to run with this in his preparation for the Rose Bowl on New Year's Day.
Oregon and Ohio State first met on October 12th in what became an instant classic with the Ducks winning 32-31, and it was arguably the biggest win in Autzen Stadium history. Now, the two teams are set to add another chapter to this budding conference rivalry, and will do so in a familiar setting.
Lanning is an incredible motivator, and will enter the Rose Bowl after a three week layoff between games. How he has this team ready to play, both in energy and in game plan, is going to be vital for the team's success. Leaning into the underdog role, the "prove them wrong" attitude aiming to dispel the belief that the Oregon Ducks, a team not considered to be a blue blood program, doesn't belong on the national stage, will likely be a large part of how he attacks the preparation.
Oregon has an opportunity to continue this incredible season they've been rolling through, adding to their resume as a national powerhouse. After Ohio State's showing against Tennessee, this game has the makings of an all-timer.
