The first day of NFL Free Agency, when players are teams are allowed to agree in principal to new contracts that can be officially signed on the new league year, is always a flurry of activity. For one former Oregon Duck, he cashed in on a new deal, moving from the AFC East to the NFC East.

Safety Jevon Holland is trading in his Dolphins gear to move north, agreeing to a three-year, $45.3 million contract with the New York Giants. Holland provides a great weapon in the secondary that should give New York a big boost on defense.

The former Duck was drafted by the Dolphins in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft, and over his four seasons in Miami, Holland emerged as one of the best safeties in football. Last year was a bit of a down year for the safety statistically, not looking quite as dynamic as he did in 2023 before suffering a knee sprain.

In his four seasons, Holland has five interceptions, and has shown that he's more than willing to stick his now in a tough spot to make a tackle. In 2022, Holland had a career-high 96 tackles. If he's healthy and can return to his pre-knee injury form, the Giants should be getting a versatile defensive weapon.

New York has plenty of questions to answer this season, and quarterback is chief amongst them. As of right now, Tommy DeVito, who re-signed on a one-year, $1.3 million deal, is the only quarterback on the roster. The Giants hold the third overall pick, and are expected to be looking for their franchise quarterback of the future. Perhaps their new leading man will hear his name called early in the 2025 NFL Draft.
