Oregon Ducks staff member makes extremely classy gesture to Indiana Hoosiers star in the face of defeat following College Football Playoff loss
Oregon Ducks staffer finds D’Angelo Ponds and hands him the ball he picked off and returned for a touchdown following College Football Playoff game.
The Indiana Hoosiers completely destroyed the Oregon Ducks, 56-22, in the semifinal match of the College Football Playoff on Friday. It was ugly from start to finish for the Ducks, as Indiana kicked off the game by picking off a pass from Dante Moore and running it back for a touchdown on the very first offensive play of the game.
It would be easy to be hateful towards Indiana Hoosiers players, especially D’Angelo Ponds, the cornerback who made the interception to start the game. Instead, one Oregon Ducks staff member made an extremely classy gesture after the tough loss.
Oregon staffer found D’Angelo Ponds after the game and gave him pick-six ball
The confetti was falling. Players, coaches, bowl staff, and media members were scrambling all around the field. If you’ve ever stepped foot onto the field following a big college football game (even when the fans don’t rush the field), it’s pure chaos.
Still, regardless of the mess of humanity, one Oregon staff member went out of his way to find the Indiana Hoosiers star defender who began the blowout loss with his pick-six interception return for a touchdown.
The exact staff member is still unconfirmed, but it looks as though Kenny Farr, the Oregon Ducks’ football equipment administrator, was the staffer who found Ponds on the field and handed him the ball. Just a pure class act move, regardless of the exact staff member who chose to do it.
Dan Lanning and the Oregon Ducks may have suffered an utterly embarrassing loss, but it’s good to see that even amidst all the pain there, good sportsmanship prevailed, at least in this instance.
The Ducks finish the season 13-2, with both of their losses coming to what seems to be the eventual national champion Indiana Hoosiers. Fans might feel angry or disappointed right now — and they rightfully should — but Oregon will be back in the mix to win it all again soon.
