The Bills, Chiefs, and Cowboys have been linked to potentially selecting Troy Franklin, WR Oregon for weeks now. When I was at the NFL Combine talking with him he confirmed multiple meetings and other communication with all three teams on multiple occasions. In recent weeks those are the three top landing spots for him via large sample mock draft data too.
On Tuesday, Oregon football held their official pro day in Eugene with several NFL scouts on location. He and Bo Nix put on a show all pro day long as they connected on a handful of deep shots. That quarterback-receiver connection was fun to watch, but the on-field performance wasn't the most notable thing at Oregon's pro day when it came to Troy Franklin.
For starters, Franklin weighed in at 184 pounds, eight pounds heavier than he just did less than two weeks ago at the NFL Combine. Why the significant difference? Tony Pauline of Sportskeeda reported Tuesday that apparently Troy Franklin had been suffering with the flu leading up to the NFL Combine, which led to him losing weight.
The fact that Troy Franklin was able to run a 4.41-second forty-yard dash and post an 84th percentile Burst Score via his vertical and broad jump while fighting to recover from the flu is just incredible. And it's important to note, Franklin posted verified speed over 22 miles per hour on several occasions last fall, so his on-field speed is even more impressive than his NFL Combine performance suggests.
After clearing up any athletic and size questions at his pro day Franklin can certainly be expected to come off the NFL Draft board early next month. Based on 100+ mock drafts over the last few weeks Franklin looks like a top-35 prospect heading into the heart of NFL Draft season. The Bills have still been his most frequently mocked landing spot, but the Cowboys and Chiefs are certainly also popular projections for him. Late round one seems to be his sweet spot.
