For those who didn’t see, the first adaption of the college football playoff rankings were released on Tuesday night. The Penn State Nittany Lions came in at No. 6 on that ranking, meaning that they would be in the 12-team playoff if the season ended today. That was great news for the fans who had to endure a tough defeat to Ohio State last weekend.
When it comes to continuing to build their playoff resume, it comes down to stacking wins for Penn State. The Nittany Lions will be hosting the Washington Huskies, who are 5-4 so far in their first season in the Big Ten. Outside of winning, there are several games that Penn State fans will be paying close attention to this weekend.
Here’s who Penn State fans should be rooting for on Saturday.
Florida at (5) Texas
A week after we saw Florida give the Georgia Bulldogs all they could handle, is there a chance that they could upset Texas this week? Probably not, but a Penn State fan could hope. With them being ranked ahead of them, they could continue to rise up the rankings with teams losing. If Penn State could get to the No. 5 spot, it is an ideal road for when the playoffs do kickoff.
(4) Miami at Georgia Tech
The Hurricanes are a bizarre team. They are undefeated so clearly they are a good team, but they do have a propensity to play down to opponents at times. You have to think that eventually they will come back to haunt them. Georgia Tech has been trending downward the last couple of weeks, but there is some talent to work with. With them at home, it is at least worth monitoring if they can pull an upset.
Michigan at (8) Indiana
This is probably wishful thinking, but Indiana is another team that has taken care of business, but hasn’t been overly tested so far. They don't currently have a victory over a team with less than four losses right now. Michigan is a mess, but they still do have a few elite football players. We haven’t really seen the Hoosiers in a close game, and it will be interesting to see if the Wolverines can keep it close, and what happens if a team has to win in the fourth quarter.
