Producing a Heisman Trophy finalist at the tight end position is a near-impossible task, but the impact of developing Tyler Warren into what he became in 2024 continues to pay off for James Franklin. The Penn State Nittany Lions have already been a tight end factory over the years, boasting incredible athletes who have found solid roles in the NFL. But Warren is the best of the bunch and was a first-round pick for a reason.
The top recruits in the nation have noticed, of course. 2027 No. 1 tight end Brock Williams just dropped his early top five, and Penn State is in the mix. The 6-foot-5, 210-pounder has his choice of more than three dozen schools, plus would have more if he entertained their offers.
Where does Penn State land? Take a look at the latest from On3 insider Hayes Fawcett, plus my own reporting.
Brock Williams has Penn State in his top five
Williams recently said that Ohio State, Georgia, and Texas are atop his list due to his relationships with their respective staffs. However, he was sure to mention how each school uses and develops its tight ends. That in itself bodes well for Penn State.
“Ohio State, Georgia, and Texas,” Williams said. “They’ve been nonstop with communication. It’s great. They’ll watch my games and they communicate with my parents. So all that good stuff. And just showing really big interest in me.”
However, he has Penn State on his radar and said he will certainly go back to Happy Valley. This is where Franklin and his staff must sell the idea that this program has done better than their competition at featuring and building an offense around the position.
“And then checking out like Penn State. I’ve already been to Penn State once for junior day and really liked it. So them as well.”
It’s a tall task to pull the Illinois product out of the hands of bigger blue bloods, but we’ve seen bigger flips than Penn State flexing its muscle for a position they’re more than equipped to maximize.
