Notre Dame football predicted to land a borderline five-star recruit who is one of the biggest priorities in the 2027 class
Notre Dame is in prime position to land one of their biggest priorities in the 2027 recruiting class.
Notre Dame football is fresh off of their best recruiting class in a very long time with their 2026 haul, and now they have their eyes set on the 2027 recruiting class. Head coach Marcus Freeman and the Fighting Irish are off to a strong start, and things are expected to move quickly over the next couple of months.
There are several key targets for Notre Dame out there, which includes 2027 Middletown (Delaware) Appoquinimink offensive tackle Layton Von Brandt. The former Penn State recruit opened his recruitment back up after the Nittany Lions parted ways with former head coach James Franklin during the season. Since then, the Irish have quickly made a huge impression on the Delaware native.
With so much positive energy on this recruitment for Notre Dame, many folks around the recruiting industry remain positive for the Irish chances in the end. That includes Kyle Kelly from Rivals, who logged an expert prediction for Von Brandt to land with Notre Dame against an elite group of suitors.
If Notre Dame does land Von Brandt, it would be a massive addition for Freeman and offensive line coach Joe Rudolph. He possesses some elite traits and could be in five-star territory when everything is said and done. This is the type of talent you want to continue to add to your already deep offensive line room.
This one does feel like a matter of when for Notre Dame, not if.
Layton Von Brandt’s recruiting background
Von Brandt is considered a four-star player by all major recruiting platforms and a near-consensus top-100 player by each. On the 247 Sports Composite ranking, Von Brandt ranks as a top-60 player, including sitting as the No. 59 overall player, the No. 6 offensive tackle, and the No. 1 player in the state of Delaware for the 2027 recruiting class. That is not a traditional area for Notre Dame to target, but Von Brandt is just that good and could be bordering on five-star status in the end.
Even before Von Brandt committed to the Nittany Lions in November of 2025, there was a long list of impressive suitors who had been pursuing the talented offensive lineman. The 6-6, 275-pound offensive tackle has an extremely impressive offer list.
Some of the top schools that have offered him include the Fighting Irish, Penn State, Ohio State, Georgia, Tennessee, Florida, Florida State, Missouri, Auburn, Indiana, Virginia Tech, West Virginia, Boston College, Virginia, UNC, Stanford, Syracuse, and Rutgers, among several others.
