The spring transfer portal didn't have the same high-end names we saw on the move after the 2023 season concluded, but there were a few impact talents who relocated. One of the most intriguing players was a 5-star cornerback recruit just last year. After playing in nine games at Colorado, Cormani McClain is transferring to Florida.

Cormani McClain Transfers to Florida Gators

Shortly after taking an official visit to Florida, McClain has given his commitment to the Gators as a preferred walk-on, according to On3's Pete Nakos. The Gators don't have the scholarships to hand McClain a roster spot, but his NIL deal is expected to cover the cost of attending the prestigious school.

The new NIL walk-on status is unfamiliar, but just as meaningful for the Gators and McClain. McClain had flirted with Flordia during his high school recruitment, visiting the school a half-dozen times before being swayed by Deion Sanders. Unfortunately for McClain, the 6-foot-1, 165-pounder could not change the narrative of his work ethic while at Colorado.

McClain's high school coach kicked him off the team for not showing up to practices, noting that he was overly reliant on his physical traits. Sanders essentially echoed that McClain wasn't putting in the work during film sessions to become a starter despite Colorado desperately needing him to be ready.

This clearly wasn't just a Deion Sanders and Colorado issue. McClain needs to take this chance with Florida seriously for his NFL dreams to stand a chance to come true. If he can't make better decisions, this walk-on opportunity will disappear as quickly as it came together.
