Florida State is known as a football school. It is one of the biggest brands in the country when it comes to college football. Sure, it has made Final Fours in basketball and College World Series in baseball, but it has won three National Championships—1993, 1999, and 2013. It has also been in a few other games, but it wasn't able to win them.
With that big brand, the school has a lot of eyes on them, especially during football season. No one expected the year that FSU had this last year — a season that saw them go 2-10, their worst record since 1974. Florida State has an all-time winning percentage of around 68%, which is very good. They have historically been a good football team, especially in the last two years.
In 2023, the Seminoles were undefeated and hoping to get into the College Football Playoffs. This year, they won two games. But, I'm not sure I need to keep harping on how bad they were, I'm sure you know.
But, what happened? What is the real reason this team was so bad? They recruited well, they hit the transfer portal well, and they had a decent coaching staff under Mike Norvell. So what happened?
Former QB Jameis Winston talks FSU curse
Former quarterback Jameis Winston, who has since played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, New Orleans Saints, and Cleveland Browns, has an idea of what happened in 2024
"I think he definitely should have stood on business," Winston said on the Pardon My Take Podcast by Barstool Sports.
Now, you may be wondering what exactly he is talking about. Well, let me explain: Do you remember the fan who said he would eat dog– Let's just not finish the sentence, you all know what I'm talking about. Well, Winston is on board with the idea that the fan who didn't follow his word, cursed the team in 2024.
And, while there are obviously much more real reasons the team was bad, it's funny that even Winston, a former Seminoles quarterback, is now going along with the take that the Noles are cursed.
Hopefully, they won't be cursed in 2025.
Florida State Seminoles are drawing interest from one of the most coveted players in the transfer portal
He would improve this team a ton.
