Oklahoma is in pursuit of a 2027 recruit who could really make an impact early in his college career. The Sooners have had some ups and downs in this recruiting cycle, with some big wins and some big losses.
But 2027 could be a big one, especially if they land a guy who is the best at his position in his class. And, it would be a win over some other big-time programs, and even one that recently won it all.
It's safe to say Brent Venables and company are hard at work.
Sooners impressing 2027 DL Jalen Brewster
Jalen Brewster seems to be a guy that many people are keeping an eye on when it comes to the 2027 recruiting class. The Oklahoma Sooners are a team that has a legit chance to get him over some serious National Championship contenders. But, it's going to take some work. He's a 2027 recruit, so thankfully, there is plenty of time.
Brewster is a four-star defensive lineman from Cedar Hill High School in Texas, and is the top defensive lineman and a top-10 overall prospect in his class according to Rivals. At 6'3" and 300 pounds, he’s a dominant force with exceptional speed for his size, strength, and technique. Of course, that technique still needs to be refined and developed, but he's well ahead of where most are at his age and his position.
In 2024, as a sophomore, he recorded seven tackles for loss, four sacks, 16 tackles, and a fumble recovery in five games. Brewster has over 31 scholarship offers from top programs like Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Ohio State, Oregon, Texas, Texas A&M, Notre Dame, and Oklahoma. He’s visited schools like Ohio State, Oregon, Texas, and Oklahoma, with Ohio State and Oregon standing out because of how they have recently developed the position, but also their recent success in either winning or competing for a National Championship.
On Rivals, Oklahoma has the highest prediction percentage at 43%, with Oregon at 7%. But, recent intel from Sam Spiegelman says that Oregon is a team to watch.
Oregon has been in pole position with blue-chip DL Jalen Brewster after multiple visits to Eugene, including a visit back at the top of June. There is a national cast of contenders keeping pace, however, including Oklahoma, Texas, Texas A&M, and Ohio State. – Sam Spiegelman, On3/Rivals Intel
So, while Oregon is leading, Oklahoma is making an impression.
Texas benefits from being close to home, and Oklahoma has impressed, considering he has been there more than any other school on visits, with four, and to Texas twice. He hasn’t set a commitment timeline but is focused on finding the right fit as he enters his junior year. He has a lot of time to decide where he wants to go, and a lot could happen between now and then.
Oklahoma Sooners are already working on bolstering their offensive line for the 2027 season and beyond
The Sooners need to get back to the glory days of offensive line play.
