Texas A&M could be well on its way to getting another huge win over blue-blood programs

Last season didn't go quite as well as many thought it would for the Texas A&M Aggies, but it wasn't terrible. It could have been worse — they could have been the 2-10 Florida State Seminoles.

They were 8-5 last year, which isn't a bad season at all, but they were 5-3 in conference play, and behind some SEC teams that definitely should not have been above them when you look at all of the situations around the conference. But, last year the SEC was as good as it's been in a very long time in terms of parity and overall balance.

And the Aggies had some really good moments. Now, it's about building on that with head coach Mike Elko and stringing together some great moves in the offseason. And, so far, they have done that. Sure, the 2026 class won't be on campus for a whole year, and a lot can happen between now and then, but the Aggies have done some really nice things.

They have one five-star player already, a few four stars, and some really good three stars in a class that already has 24 total commits. Now, they are close to adding one more.

Aggies land in top three for Tank Jones

The Aggies aren't making the same kind of noise they were a few years ago in recruiting, when they had one of the craziest recruiting seasons ever, but they are doing some pretty good things. Their 2026 class is currently ranked third by On3, which is up four spots from their last ranking.

Now, they could add Tank Jones, a five-star that would likely put them at No. 2 or even No. 1.

Anthony “Tank” Jones is a five-star edge rusher from St. Paul’s Episcopal School in Mobile, Alabama. He's 6'4" and 250 pounds, and ranked No. 16 overall, No. 3 edge rusher, and No. 2 in Alabama by 247Sports. In his junior year, he recorded 84 tackles, 18 tackles for loss, 16 sacks, and two interceptions, plus five rushing and three receiving touchdowns. Yes, those are real stats, and yes, he did do a bit of everything.

Jones has narrowed his college choices to Alabama, Oregon, and Texas A&M, with a commitment expected in July 2025. Alabama leads, as Jones has visited Tuscaloosa over 10 times, including an official visit in June 2025, and connects well with coaches Kalen DeBoer and Christian Robinson. But, don't count out Elko and the Aggies just yet.

Oregon and Texas A&M are still in the race, with Oregon’s Dan Lanning and Texas A&M’s staff making pushes, and showing their history and their success in developing pass rushers. Then again, Alabama has some of the same success, if not better.

Three pass rushers in Shemar Stewart, Nic Scourton, and Shemar Turner were all drafted in the 2025 NFL Draft. Stewart was selected 17th overall by the Cincinnati Bengals. Scourton was drafted 51st overall by the Carolina Panthers, and Turner went to the Chicago Bears with the 62nd pick.

His disruptive pass-rushing and run-stopping skills, plus his athleticism, make him a top prospect. Alabama fans are optimistic due to his in-state ties and the program’s recent recruiting wins, but Oregon and Texas A&M remain strong contenders.

Time to see what Elko can do here.
