For the Texas A&M Aggies, their matchup against the LSU Tigers this weekend is a massive one. If the Aggies pull off a road win, their chances of making the College Football Playoff skyrocket, and they are one step closer to a bid in the SEC Championship. For Mike Elko, in only his second year, it’s a huge step forward for the program after years of mediocrity and disappointment.

However, playing at Death Valley at night is easier said than done, and the Aggies are fresh off of escaping a 45-42 shootout against Arkansas last week. LSU is still a bitter opponent of the Aggies, and these two teams have produced some memorable showdowns in recent years. LSU isn’t as dominant this year as before, but it is still a talented squad that A&M can’t overlook.

Fortunately for them, the Aggies got some good news on the injury report, and LSU will take on a strong A&M squad down a few key members on both sides of the ball.

LSU’s injuries provide opportunity for A&M

On the first SEC-mandated injury report for this week, the Tigers listed starting left tackle Tyree Adams as OUT for their matchup against A&M. Adams suffered an ankle injury against Vanderbilt last weekend and could miss the next few games. With A&M’s pass rush being one of the best in the country (tied for sixth in sacks), the Tigers can’t afford any losses on the offensive line. Cashius Howell should be able to tee off and wreak havoc early and often this week.

That’s not the biggest loss the Tigers are battling, however. Linebacker Whit Weeks was listed as doubtful to play. According to head coach Brian Kelly, Weeks is still in a non-weight-bearing boot even after being held out last week in LSU’s loss to Vanderbilt.

While doubtful is not OUT, according to a source, it’s “99% likely” that Weeks will be out once again this week. The team is hoping that missing two weeks of games, as well as LSU’s bye week next week, will be enough for Weeks to be ready to return when the Tigers take on the Alabama Crimson Tide.

If Weeks is indeed out, that is a monumental win for the Aggies. Weeks would be crucial to keeping Marcel Reed contained in the pocket and limiting what A&M could do on the ground. If he’s out, their rushing attack becomes that much more potent, and that, in turn, opens up the rest of the offense. A key fact to note here: LSU is 0-5 in games that Weeks does not play.
