Texas A&M Aggies make unbelievable history with record streak-snapping comeback win over South Carolina
Aggies snap ridiculous streak in huge comeback win as QB Marcel Reed reminds everyone he’s in the Heisman Trophy mix
The Texas A&M Aggies pulled off the impossible on Saturday. Everything went wrong for the Aggies and head coach Mike Elko throughout the entire first half, leading to a 30-3 deficit heading into halftime. Then the second half happened.
Texas A&M scored 28 unanswered points to complete the most unbelievable SEC comeback in over 20 years. Yes, prior to Saturday’s comeback victory for the Aggies, SEC teams were 0-286 when trailing by 27+ points dating back to 2004. Not anymore. The Aggies crushed that streak and made history.
Texas A&M Aggies make history in epic comeback
The Aggies looked completely broken from the start of the game on Saturday. They immediately went down 3-0 after South Carolina quickly amassed nearly 60 yards on their opening drive. They matched with a field thereafter, but then kept uncharacteristically giving up third down conversions on the next drive that ended in a 50-yard touchdown pass to Vandrevius Jacobs. Then things only got worse.
A&M missed a field goal on the next drive. Then Marcel Reed fumbled and South Carolina’s Nick Barrett ran it back for a touchdown. What was a close game quickly turned into a 17-3 mess. Three punts, two interceptions, and another missed field goal later Texas A&M found themselves down 30-3 at halftime. All hope looked like it was lost. And then Marcel Reed remembered that he is a Heisman Trophy contender and the entire Aggies team started acting like the national title contenders they are.
The Aggies quickly turned their first four drives of the second half into nearly 300 yards of offense and 28 unanswered points. The team almost found a way to screw things up late on a trick play where true freshman Jamarion Morrow “fumbled” on an attempted lateral to Marcel Reed when the Aggies were about to score again, but it didn’t matter. The Aggies defense held off South Carolina one more time and the game was over.
Marcel Reed finished with over 450 total yards of offense and three touchdowns. Both KC Concepcion and Ashton Bethel-Roman finished with 139 or more receiving yards. Taurean York dominated a linebacker and four different players finished a sack on the day. What began as a colossal meltdown ended in a complete team victory. The Aggies are 10-0 and firmly in control of their SEC and College Football Playoff destiny.
