The Texas A&M Aggies broke the bank in the transfer portal this off-season, and it is paying off handsomely so far

If you watched the Texas A&M Aggies, and specifically the offense last season, an improvement needed was very obvious. This is a team under head coach Mike Elko that needed to get a ton faster. The playmakers on the perimeter just weren’t good enough, and there was nowhere near enough big play ability.

This offseason was dedicated to just that, finding more speed and explosiveness. The Transfer Portal was essential in doing so, adding former NC State star Kevin “KC” Concepcion and former Mississippi State speedster Mario Craver. Between the two, more big plays would certainly be on the horizon.

So far through two games, the investment has paid off really well. That duo has combined to haul in 24 receptions for 381 yards and six touchdowns. That is an average 15.9 yards per reception, demonstrating the big play ability that each one of them possesses.

In an article recently released by On3 transfer portal reporter Pete Nakos, he released a list of the top-paid wide receivers in college football. Both wideouts were mentioned, and Conception was right near the top. He is one of the few pass catchers who is going to be earning north of $1 million this season.

“Viewed as one of the top transfer portal wide receivers this offseason, KC Concepcion picked Texas A&M over Alabama, Colorado, Florida State, Miami and South Carolina,” Nakos wrote. “The NC State transfer has nine catches for 145 yards through two games, and is on a $1 million deal this season with the Aggies, sources have told On3.”

Craver was in the Lowe category on the list, but he’s making a pretty penny as well. Here is what Nakos also said about Craver, and what it took to get him to College Station.

“Another key transfer pickup this offseason for Texas A&M was Mississippi State wideout Mario Craver. He’s making upwards of $600,000 this season and ranks second in the SEC in receiving yards to this point.”

It’s paying handsomely so far

It is just two games, and the Aggies have yet to really be tested, but there aren’t any fans complaining about the additions of Concepcion and Craver. These two talented pass catchers have completely transformed the Texas A&M passing offense led by quarterback Marcel Reed. It is a night and day difference from a season ago.

With the Notre Dame Fighting Irish on the horizon this weekend, quality opponents will be challenging the Aggies shortly. That also includes the SEC conference slate, which will also be here before we know it. How this passing attack performs in those matchups will determine if both players were worth the price tag. There’s no question that fans feel a ton more confident they will compared to this past season.
