After the Texas Longhorns’ 55-0 win Saturday, the media spoke with wide receiver Ryan Wingo and quarterback Arch Manning. The two connected four times for 93 yards and two touchdowns. Prior to this game, it has been an up-and-down season for the two.

But, now it seems things are trending in the right direction for Manning and Wingo after a concerted effort was made in preparation for the Bearkats.

“He just said he’s gonna get try to give me the ball more,” Wingo said. “And he kind of showcased that tonight [against Sam Houston]. And when he say that to me, I got to do my part and catch the ball. So that’s what I tried to do tonight.”

Texas’ practices leading up to last week’s game were paramount to success.

“We’ve been having some good practices,” Wingo said. “So, being able to see that transition to the game is pretty cool.”

These two have a great connection stemming from a bond on and off the field. But for Texas to take the next step – and it’s a big one – Manning and Wingo need to be on the same page every week from here on out. Both struggled with pressing earlier in the season but Wingo told the media Saturday he thinks it was crucial for the development of the connection.

“I think it was just a growing moment,” Wingo said. “Like I said, everybody’s got to get good chemistry together, and we just gotta keep building on that, and I got to take care of my end of the bargain.”

Arch Manning is well-aware of the importance of working Ryan Wingo and DeAndre Moore into the offense.

The two leaders in the wide receiver room will open things up for others, tight end Jack Endries, the run game, and utilizing Manning’s legs as well.

“Yeah, really, really important to get Ryan [Wingo] and D-Mo [Moore] the ball,” Manning said. “They’re so electric when they get the ball in their hands. So, gotta keep doing that.”

Moore finished with five receptions for 79 yards Saturday. If Texas is going to get where it wants to get this season, these two must be a focal point of the offensive attack. The explosion of Wingo paired with the experience and savviness of Moore is something which could pay massive dividends for the Longhorns.

Arch Manning put a ton of pressure on himself the first three weeks.

But, now it seems he has leveled off and is just playing ball. Wingo spoke to the media about his new approach and maturity under center. A lot of the blame if not all of it was placed on Manning. His teammates recognized this and worked hard to prepare.

And now Texas has a good bit of momentum heading into the bye week prior to SEC play starting.

“He’s been grinding,” Wingo said. “He’s been grinding super hard. You know, he get most of the hate for everything that we do. So, being able to see him showcase that he the best quarterback in the country was cool.”
